VCONSOLE DOCUMENTATION
EXPLANATION OF FILES:
VCONSOLE.EXE
This program is used to allow NetWare Console Operators to access the file
server console of NetWare 286 file servers from any workstation on the
network.
VCON.VAP
This file is loaded at the file server of NetWare 286 file servers to allow
network console operators to access it through VCONSOLE.EXE
VCONNFR.NLM
This file is loaded at the file server of NetWare 386 file servers to allow
network console operators to access it through VCONSOLE.EXE
INSTALLATION:
1. Login to the Network as supervisor or supervisor equivalent.
Example: F:\LOGIN\LOGIN SUPERVISOR
2. Copy all files to a directory on the file server.
Example: F:\PUBLIC\MD VCONSOLE (THIS WILL CREATE DIRECTORY)
Example: COPY A:*.* F:\PUBLIC\VCONSOLE
3. Copy VCON.VAP to the SYSTEM subdirectory of all NetWare 286 file servers.
Example: COPY A:VCON.VAP F:\SYSTEM
4. Copy VCONNFR.NLM to the SYSTEM subdirectory of all NetWare 386 file servers.
Example: COPY A:VCONNFR.NLM G:\SYSTEM
5. Go into SYSCON.
Example: F:\PUBLIC\SYSCON
6. Select "SUPERVISOR OPTIONS" from the menu.
7. Select "CONSOLE OPERATORS" from the menu.
8. Add all users who will have access to the file server as console operators.
*Repeat this step for every file server that will run VCONSOLE
9. Reboot all NetWare 286 file servers to load VCON.VAP
10. For all NetWare 386 file servers, go to the file server console and
type:
: LOAD VCONNFR
at the : prompt.
11. Go to the subdirectory where VCONSOLE was copied.
Example: F:\PUBLIC\VCONSOLE
12. Type VCONSOLE at the DOS prompt.
Example: F:\PUBLIC\VCONSOLE\VCONSOLE
13. All NetWare 286 and 386 file servers that you are attached to will display
in the list box. Use your arrow keys or mouse to select the file server
you wish to view and press return. You will now view file server.
*Note: If the VAP/NLM is not loaded you will be returned to the menu
14. To exit viewing the file server press CTRL-BREAK. You will now be back to
the main menu.
15. Press ESCAPE to exit menu.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The VCON.VAP & NLM take only 6k of server memory and do not take up a
connection on the file server.

- A description of the problem.
- The steps that consistently reproduce the problem.
- The COMPLETE TEXT of any error messages you encounter.
- ALL hardware/software information available including:
- NetWare version number.
- DOS (PC or MS) version number.
- Node hardware information (machine type, keyboard, video adapter)
- Node software information (AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS contents; TSRs
loaded [version, order loaded], anything else relative), and VAPs
loaded.
- Topology information (Network Interface card and cabling).
- All Shell information (get this by running IPX I, NET# I).
